Laos tourist visa on arrival (Vientiane airport) still OK?Hi. I am a UK national, working in Bangkok and have a week free in July. I have never been to Vientiane so am planning to fly there, then after a couple of days continue on up to Luang Prabang: then fly back to Vientiane to connect with my BKK return flight.
As far as I can see from Googling, I don't need to get a tourist visa in advance - I can download an application form and present it with photos and fee (currently $35? - is this payable only in dollars?) at the airport. Has anyone done this recently and can confirm it is still OK this way? Or would it save a lot of queuing at the airport if I got it in advance in Bangkok?

2as captain Bob says take $35 US cash with you, for VOA and take it this is a 3 mthly visa run for you so many head for Myanmar at $5 for the day why not fly into Luam phrabang and out vientiann saves covering same ground or take the overnight bus direct to Hoyxai from Morchit speedboat same morning to Luam Phrabang andthen local bus down to Vientianne via Ponsivon and vang Vienne

3The new Central Lao Airlines is offering a promotion of VTE-LP-VTE for slightly less than 1million Lao kip or about U$60 oneway.
Or else, just roundtrip from Bangkok or Chiang Mai to LP and focus on the north instead of dashing from place to place. More relaxing for a 1 week vaca. You can head up to Nong khiaw and Moung Ngoi (1 hour further up the Nam Ou) some 3.5 hours away from Luang Prabang.

try to ensure that your USD are in very good condition.
In the past I have had some staff refuse my USD for the slightest of marks on them. Admittedly, in my more recent trips the staff have been more tolerant of some notes with marks, but you never know.
Nice to hear from you again Hanuman.

5Ok, flights booked. The Lao consulate is miles out of the way here, so will take clean/new dollars and get the visa when I arrive at VTE airport. Paid about 13000 baht total for a return to Vientiane from Bangkok and a return Vientiane-Luang Prabang.
Will search for accommodation recommendations here..
