First timers to Marrekesh & Essaouira

hi all

just booked a 6 day trip to Morrocco for me and girlfriend, we always get away for much longer but circumstances outside our control only allow for the 6 days this time. Flying in and out of Marrakesh and dividing our time between Marrakesh & Essaouira. My girlfriend has been to Morrocco before (though only spent a day in Marrakesh), have been doing a bit of research as to what we should see and do in our short time. Just looking for those in the know to give us their views on what should/could be done in such a short timeframe

cheers
ger

thanks again for all the very helpful replies. i have one more question im hoping you can help with....outside our accomadation costs what sort of daily budget would we be looking at, wont be doing anything too fancy....eating street food for lunch and certainly having cheap dinners in Jemma el Fna and maybe a nice restaurant for a night or two. not big drinkers so just a few beers in the evening. Will be going to Essaouria for two days by bus. Probably wont do any organised tours just explore by ourselves.

...... you don't have to scrimp on good restaurant food in Marrakesh, you just need to know where to go to find good eating at reasonable prices. Where tourists congregate food carries a premium, a short taxi trip to the New-town (Gueliz), at the top of Bd. de Safi in the area of Faculte des Scienes are terrific restaurants for all budgets. This is where the business people and university community go. Have a look at the menus posted beside the restaurants doors, its also a nice place to ramble and shop.
