PNW road trip: Portland > Seattle > Vancouver

Hey there -

I'm sure this topic is well documented, but it's my first time here. Doing a 10 day road trip in August starting in Portland, ending in Vancouver, and wanting to see all points of relevance/beauty in between, with some Seattle and some hiking & biking mixed in (I'll need to rent bikes). Any itinerary/route suggestions are appreciated. Many thanks.

You have opened a can of worms. There is so much to see and do on your proposed route that it is impossible to respond without more information.

First of all, when is this trip?

Second - biking? Do you mean road biking or mountain biking?

Thirdly, what is your budget?

Finally, "all points of relevance" means nothing to us. What is relevant to you?

The Pacific Northwest of the U.S. is magnificently beautiful and diverse, so focus, - what do you want to do?

The two basic options that come to mind are the I-5 route (more or less straight up the middle via freeway) and the coastal route (for the most part via Hwy 101). The former is the most direct and affords you access to the Cascade Mtns and the various cities and towns that comprise the breadbasket of WA. The latter requires a left turn at Portland and a right turn at the Pacific less than two hours later, and provides you with a beautiful drive parallel to the ocean that takes you up aound the Olympic Peninsula and eventually to Seattle (which you can alternatively reach by ferry if desired). Both routes offer hiking/biking options,.but I think the coastal route's offerings would be more easily accessed. If seeking scenic, the coast May fit the bill. If this is your first time through the region, the I-5 route will provide a great overview and feel for the area. Can't go wrong either way.

Wait a minute. Let's go back to that first statement where she knows there's already lots of info on here, but then uses the excuse of being new as a way to ignore the fact that she's not interested in reading the previous posts. How exactly do these people operate on a day to day basis?
