We plan to spend a few nights in each of the following, but we're flexible:
Pak Meng Beach which is like a 40km bus trip so good for 1st stop
Ko Kraden, (and Ko Mak?)
Any other recommended beaches or things to see in the area? Caves? Waterfalls? We're fine with just relaxing and swimming etc, but it seems Ko lanta has more nightlife and eateries so may wanna spend bit more time there.
Anyway any advice on places to stay (500-900 bt night) that are very near or on a beach (or maybe with a pool?)

1You realise this area of Thailand is in the wet season in July ?
You may be lucky this year but if you want to avoid rain perhaps check the weather patterns nearer the time.

2Most of your questions answered here.....
I'm not sure if the Lanta-Trang-Island boats run through the rainy season. The travel agents near Trang railway station will be able to tell you (or put you on a minibus, if not).

3#1 Yes, thanks for the heads up on the rain, but I figure less tourists...and will just take my chances on the rain. Been thru rainy season in Thailand before (but up north).
#2 Ok thanks I'll have a look

5Well my girlfriend likes swimming in tropical rain so rain won't be a problem...and if it rains too much we'll just spend more time in bed, with me getting massages!
I've been doing some research on hotels in the areas we'll be going and am finding them to be 50-60% discounted (or more) because its slow season. Looks like I'll get to pick from a lot of options too. That's a nice bonus and no crowds to deal with in restaurants either. Man I hated it a few years ago in India during peak where I had to wait a ridiculously long time just to get a meal, and I was starving!
I guess the main negative will be if boats aren't running from Trang-Lanta cuz that could be a fun ride. It will be a bus trip then. Other than that, I can deal with the weather (I hope! ha ha)
