Morocco to Nigeria overland

Hi everyone
To keep it short, I am interested in hearing from anyone who has travelled from Morocco to Nigeria overland but through the coastal countries NOT through Mali, Burkina Faso, etc. Or if you've done any of that stretch.
We know West Africa very well and have travelled extensively there, but haven't made that exact trip before. A few questions:
1) On the basis that we're hitching and bussing it, how long do you think it will take (we'll be travelling through, rather than sightseeing).
2) Any current advice for travelling across Western Sahara, Liberia and Cote d'Ivoire?
3) Of course I will do my up-to-date research but if anyone has a quick list of the visa regulations for each of those countries, that would be fab! Specifically visa-on-arrival/in advance.
I understand that it wouldn't be everyone's choice of trip. It's not a holiday and we have local friends in several of these places and we live in Lagos, so we're not going into this blind (just the prevent the barrage of don't-do-it messages before they come).

1. In a hurry via the coast ... you 'could' do it in 18 days by my reckoning but that doesn't include any time away from any transport; you'll be on the go continuously & exhausted by the end of it! Hitching will be seriously hard work, I had to pay for my 'hitch' on the top of a Guinean truck & was glad to be alive at the end of it!!!
2. W. Sahara - easily done, straight down the coast, you might be lucky at this time of year to find a few overlanders heading south who might give you a ride. Cote d'Ivoire, stick to the coast, you may find a NGO or two heading to Abidjan but might take you a day or more to find someone. Liberia, no idea although I often see messages on the Liberia expats google groups for rides.

Hi,I've traveled overland from Morocco to Nigeria before, though it was about 4 years ago, and I did go up through Mali after heading along the coast as far as Liberia. The roads from Senegal into Guinea are terrible, and delays along that stretch used to be pretty standard. I would have thought, if you're travelling quickly, that you'd want to avoid Liberia and head straight from Guinea into Cote d'Ivoire. In Western Sahara, there's regular bus service as far as Dakhla. From Dakhla to Nouadhibou, I can't imagine there's any public transport yet, but hotels in Daklha ought to be able to find you a place in a private vehicle on any day that you want. As for visas, talking as far as Liberia, I think you'll need visas in advance for everywhere except Morocco, Senegal, and the Gambia.
