Hello all,
we received a quote for a car + driver in India and wondered if this price is reasonable.
6 days in july. starting from Ajmer to Pushkar - Jodhpur - Kumbal Garh - Bundi - Ajmer.
Small car : Toyota Innova = 720€
Minibus Tempro Traveller = 900€
Incl. Tax, Toll, Parking excl tipping...
Thanks for any comment.
Steven.

Here's a link to a couple of Agents in Ajmer, I suggest you contact them and get additional
Quotes to Compare. To compare apples with apples make mention of the same kind of vehicles listed in your Quote.

I would be making sure Fuel is also included which you didn't originally mention.

It does not seem rip off, it is rip off. I can not believe they are trying to cheat you in this way. This is beyond daring, but I guess, it might work with som totally ignorant tourist.120€ per day!! What a joke!!

Sounds absurd.
Ajmer to Jodhpur must be a fraction over 200kms so you are planning to travel no more than 500kms which by taxi would cost less than 8000 Rupees ie 160 USD.- say 1000 kms for return journeys max 350 USD maybe plus tolls.
Answer: just take taxis if you are short of time no problem in renting them, none of these journeys are very long.
900 euro approximates to 63000Rs.

Toyota Innova is not a small vehicle. The number of people in your should not matter, however, they may be using this number in their calculation.

The charge 120 Euros a day is extremely high, looks like a rip off. You may be better off paying by the mile or kilometer with some minimum miles guarantee.

As a starting point, ask how much per mile/kilometer for an Innova with gas, taxes, driver expenses, ... included.

in india ... you can hire cars on a "per km" basis ..... (and there is usually a minimum of 250-300 km to be done everyday .. or on average if its a long trip ..... ) .... the driver charges are about Rs 250 - 350 per day normally ..... (extra charges if u make him drive at night ) ......

the price of a small car ( 4 seats + driver ) ... used to be around Rs 6-7 per km .... ( Rs 7-8 per km if you need the A/C ) ......

The bigger cars .. ( like the innova u mention ) ... about - Rs 9-11 per km (extra for A/C ) ....

(above rates are for diesel based cars ... which are the usual cars for tourist transport ..... petrol ones would be even more .. but you wouldnt usually get those anyway )

i mention "was" ... because these were the rates a while back ... but the petrol / diesel prices have gone up tremendously in recent times..... so you could roughly add Rs 1-2 to the mentioned prices for the current rate .......

so based on the kinda car you need .. and distance u need to travel ..... u can calculate a an estimate amount.. :) ..

(you can ask for some discount on the final amount if you are doing a long trip ......normally it works... atleast for indians ... :) ....not sure about foreigners ) ....

as for your post .....
720 euros for that short a distance is absolute robbery !!!!! ( it amounts to about Rs 50k as of today .... for which you probably should be traveling about 7-8k km ...... which is not the case .... ) .....

hope this info helps....

good luck ...

Judging by the replies from posts 2 - 8, I'd be giving them a Miss.

Jeepers, This company can't even distinguish a small car from a large car(innova).

As a comparison - I hired a car and driver in July last year in Delhi for the 2 day return trip to Agra. The total distance was about 420km. (Delhi-Agra-Delhi)

It cost 6800 Rs ($135) for a small car (Tata sedan) + fuel, drivers expenses etc. I booked that in person at a non-government travel agent in Delhi.

As others have said a Toyota Innova is not a small car!

Thanks for the info.
As we are 4 adults we prefer a larger car.
(to be able to travel comfortably).
Which cars are common in India for 5-6 adults?
Minivans ? Toyota's?
Greetings,
steven

Just been quoted Rs4500 for 360km round trip in a Toyota Innova (4 people with packs) In Kumaon. Go to the Indiamike and Trip Advisor websites and ask people for their recommendations and hyperlinks then get some more quotes.
