Pls help finalizing my backpack trip to France
My friend and I are planing to backpack to France for the first time this September. We are in our 20's and love outdoor activity. I think I should book the hotel well in advance so we can have a place of our choice. However, I'm still worried about our plan and want to ask some opinion about this trip.Day 1 arriving in Nice in the afternoon (Sleep: Nice)
Day 2 Nice Eze Monaco (Nice)
Day 3 Aix en Provence & Avignon (Avignon)
Day 4 buy a tour to little village around Provence (we don't have confident to drive on the right) (Avignon)
Day 5 Annecy (Annecy)
Day 6 Day trip to Chamonix (Annecy)
Day 7 Beaune (Beaune)
Day 8 Paris (Sleep in Paris until the end of the trip)
Day 9 Paris
Day 10 day trip to Mont st Michel
Day 11 Versailles
Day 12 Paris
Day 13 Paris (flight leaving at night)
Thank you very much in advance

I feel you are trying to do to much. I have been to almost all your destinations, but I did it in three two week trips to France and I have a French friend with a car to take me around.4
With an afternoon arrival in Nice and a day trip to Eze and Monaco, you won't have much time to enjoy Nice itself. Stay a third night. If you are art lovers, don't miss the Chagall and Matisse museums. It's a four-hour train & bus ride from Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel and you'll be there during the hours when the crowds will be the biggest. Unless you have your heart set on going there, stay in Paris.

I looked at your profile and you don't say what country you are from, but I assume from you comment, "we don't have confident to drive on the right", your from the UK. If that is true I think I would concentrate your trip to the northern part of France and do the southern part at another time. Can you come across somewhere in Brittany, maybe see San Malo, Mont St. Michel and then head to Paris. Along with your trip to Versailles you might consider a day trip to the Cathedral at Chartres. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chartres_CathedralAnother day trip from Paris you might consider, or try doing this on the way from Brittany to Paris, is a day in Angers. There is a lot to do within the walking distance from the train station in Angers. The chateau, the old part of the city and some beautiful gardens also the old part of the city and some nice shopping areas. As a day trip from Paris you could take the TGV from Gare Montparnasse early in the morning to Angers and then take the latest train back to Paris later in the day or early evening. Here are some of the pictures I took when in Angers a number of years ago: http://travel.webshots.com/album/97574274rPCmjg
Please add your country to your profile, it helps us to more personalize our answers to your questions.
Southern France is also very nice, but there is much more to see in the areas you plan to visit, St. Paul de Vence, Nimes, Pont des Gard. and more.

Here is a lower priced hotel in Paris that might be of interest to you. It is the Hotel Jean Bart and is about two blocks west of the Luxembourg Gardens. It has been a few years since I have been there but I would think you could get a room for the two of you for 60 to 70€ and that includes breakfast. They do not have a web site and when I was there they did not accept credit cards and had to pay with cash. The hotel is dated and needs redecorating, but was clean.Hotel Jean Bart
9 rue Jean Bart
75006 Paris
Tel: 01 45 48 29 13
I think I would also consider my base in Paris with day trip from Paris. There is just so much to do in Paris.

Thank you you again for all of the ideaActually I'm from Japan but I will be in UK for 2 weeks before this trip.
I also got the ticket for nice already so nice is kind of must go for me now.
For the hotel, Louise your advice is very interesting. I will contract them. :)
