with the amount of motorbikes for sale in Vietnam, from backpackers finished with thier trip, you should be able to buy a decent bike for a few hundred bucks.Why bother with renting?
I find it hard to believe that all these backpacker bikes are being sold before the owner has to leave the country. It shouldnt be too hard to find a desperado who will settle for $100 rather than leave the bike on the streets and get nothing.

Many people bought a cheap Chinese copy of a Honda Win. If you want a driver, his salary and bike cost around 30-50$US/day or even more depending on his riding skills, language and communication ability and type of his bike. Please also note he's not a guide. Most of these drivers can be hired from rental shops in Hanoi.
