American War museums

From my understanding there are war museums in both Hanoi and HCMC. If we were to only visit one, which would folks recommend? Realistically we would like to choose one or the other due to both time constraints and interests. Planning to spend more time in Hanoi but will at least be passing thru HCMC for a day.

I only visited the one in HCMC, after doing the cuuchi tunnels trip at 8am till around 11am, they dropped us off there if we wanted to go.Very sad and interesting at the same time and well worth the visit.

Yeah, agree with the Dog that eats chips. The War Remnants Museum in Saigon is very good....worth the trip just to see the incredible collection of War Time B & W photo's for sure.

Quite one sided in it's presentation, but you can look beyond that. The shots of people suffering from the Poisons & Toxins used in the Chemical Warfare Approach are a bit tough to stomach in places.

Go to the one in Saigon, it is the better of the two.

It should be explained to the OP that the war museum in Hanoi, which is actually called the military museum, has artifacts from wars far predating the 20th century and some may find such treasures and rare and ancient weapons even more interesting than the ubiquitous guns and equipment leftover from the 70s. But mostly the displays and exhibits are on the more recent wars. That being said, if it was to be only one museum then I'd go to the one in Saigon.

I'll put in for the Hanoi Museum, if only for the Highlands coffee outdoor cafe on the street outside. Saying that i like the layout on the French war and the post WWII independence movement.

You are also nearby a few other things, like Uncle Ho's arena.

But you must go and visit Uncle Ho in his mausoleum, unless he's in Moscow for his annual service and refit vacation
Although he did ask specifically to be cremated when he died, and loved all things American

Yes, that is a great outdoor cafe. I spent about an hour there some time ago just watching the world go by.
