Holiday What to Do - October 2012

Hi Guys,

fairly new to the old forum here. Me and my girlfriend are heading out to Indonesia for a couple of weeks in October, we have a few (hundreds) of things that we would like to do to make the most of this amazing place. Unfortunatly never going to be able to do them all below is a rough run through of what we are currently thinking but it would be great to get some of your advise or tips: if this will be possible or if it will be pushing things too tight for time.

Looking at using Jakarta as a stopping off point on the way in then heading up to Tanjung Puting before flying back to Jakarta, from there thinking we will work our way down Java - Borabudur then Guang Bromo before making our way across to Bali for a relax and look around before flying back to Jakarta.

All advise will be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Looks a good plan. Jkt. is cheaper as a hub than Denpasar.

Just in case you haven't booked your international flight yet, check out Qatar Airways.

For accommodation in Jkt., I recommend the Formule1, a budget hotel, and the Six Degrees, a backpackers hostel just opposite. The Jalan Cikini Raya area is a clean and pleasant area, and there is also an interesting centre of performing arts close to the hotel and the hostel, the Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM).

Borobudur is a must see!

You might want to check out Gunung Semeru. If you do not want to go up to the top, hike just up to Lake Kumbolo. It's worth it.

In Bali, if you want to relax at the end of your trip, I recommend the GMV - it's not the cheapest place but excellent value for money.

If you want to see snakes in their natural habitat at night, check out Bali Reptile Rescue and get in touch with Ms. Shinta - shinta.kikan@yahoo.co.id

For my Borobudur advice, see my blog post from my visit there in December 2011: http://inidisini.wordpress.com/2011/12/10/visit-to-borobudur-the-greatest-place-you-never-heard-of/ Hotel and travel TIPS are near the bottom of the post!

The area around Borobudur is beautiful, full of rice fields, and nice for riding a motorbike. Consider hanging out around there for a couple of days at least -- you will be the only non-Indonesians in the countryside!
