my all india journey in 4 months-advise & companion needed

http://g.co/maps/vfh6r

first link is to the first part of my all india journey. starting from thrissur ending in new delhi covering 4200km. second link is to the second part of journey from new delhi to thrissur covering 3850km.

north eastern states is out of question as lots to cover. i might skip chandigarh, shimla, ludhiana if i'm too tired to continue. i need to ask about ranchi and jamshedpur,is there anything to see there.

i'm not keen to visit all the religious places unless its got some importance to it.kanyakumari, hyderabad, goa and a many parts of new delhi i've seen so not keen to cover it. is there any places in central india which is worthwhile a visit.

most probably i will be travelling in maruti swift and as u can see most of it will be golden quadrilateral. but i got doubts on from pune to goa, any alternate good roads worth taking.

any advise on other places to visit, routes to take, safety tips etc

thanks brawler. will check it out.

leh is too much for me, might add manali though.i'm not a guy who is that much fond of driving. but i like to see india preferrably in my own car. may be i will leave that and take the other modes of transportation. below is the way i'm figuring to go now, added amritsar

if i'm not using car then i might be able to travel overnight skipping irrevalant places and adding some good ones. my plan is go by may 15th around and come back by mid september. as it is mostly monsoon season i dont think it would be a peak season..right? in any of these places i might face difficulties to get budget accommodation, bus, rail tickets in these times. i would really appreciate some help.
