Busan or Gyeongju?

Hi folks

My girlfriend and I are spending a week in S Korea in October and will spend most of that time in Seoul and the surrounding area. We're planning a two night stay somewhere else and were thinking either Busan or Gyeongju, but haven't been able to decide which.

It seems from reading various guides that they're fairly different places, with an emphasis on scenery and temples in Gyeongju whereas Busan seems not to be picteresque but nevertheless an interesting and lively port city, but any advice on which place is more deserving of a couple of days would be most appreciated. What we're really looking for is to see somewhere a bit different to Seoul and trying to get a feel for whether one or the other of the two places shouldn't be missed on a first trip to Korea.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Rich

I personally love gyeongju and I live in busan. Why not do both? Take the ktx (or bus) from Seoul to gyeongju in the morning, a good few hours will let you see most of the sites then head to busan for the night?

My vote goes for Busan! I stayed two days and did loads - beach, mountains, temples, seafood market.

Although to be honest, if you're looking for somewhere different to Seoul, it might be better to get out in the countryside for a couple of days, rather than go to another city.
