Panama - Length of stay for New Zealand citizens?

Hi there,

Have any New Zealand citizens recently travelled to Panama and can advise on the length of time that we are able to stay? I understand that NZ citizens need a Tourist Card to enter Panama which is then valid for 30 days. However, LP and other sources say that tourists are able to stay for 90 days? How does this work with the 30-day Tourist Card? I see that you can extend the Tourist Card, but it looks like quite a process and not worth it for an extra week.

We are planning to stay in Panama for 4-5 weeks and the length we can stay will determine when we book our flights to meet a friend so would like to be clear on the length of stay issue. Can anyone clarify the situation?

Thanks
Bridget

It seems you get 30 days with you tourist card and you can extend it up to 90 days. That's the way I understand what it's said in this source (it doesn't mean necessarily I'm understanding it rightly). The same source explains when and where applying for an extension.
Alternatively to a tourist card, you can apply for a visa estampada in a consulate of Panama (I don't know what would be the extension of that visa though).
...but I'm not from New Zealand so I can't provide you first hand experience.
