Need place to stay in Prague, also getting from the airport into the city
We will be arriving in Prague in the middle of May and would like to stay fairly close to the main tourist sites, or on a main transportation route. Can anyone recommend a place to stay for under $75.Also what is the best way to get from the airport into the city without taking a taxi.
All replies appreciated

One of the better hostels in Prague is Sir Toby's, they offer comfortable private rooms for around $45 per night. It's north of the centre, with good connections by tram. Getting from the airport to the city centre is quite easy by public transport, walk out of the terminal and go to the nearby bus stop for bus #119. This bus goes directly to Dejvická metro station (about 20 minutes), which is the end station on the green line. Take the metro from there to wherever you need to get to in the centre - it's three stops to StaromÄstská station near the old town square. If you're headed from the airport to Sir Toby's, take the metro from Dejvická to Malostranská, then from outside the station take a #12 tram headed north and get out at the stop called DÄlnická.Wildroo

Wildroo gives great advice, should you book other than SirToby;s just ask and i can try and give you public transport directions.I will be back in Prague on the 25th may for the czech beer festival but if you are in the city from the 17th i can highly recommend you making a visit there.

An alternative to Wildroo's metro advice above would be to take that metro at Dejvicka to Muzeum and then switch to the C line (direction north) and get out at Vltavska (3rd stop), then exit the station and take any tram going left...Delnicka is the 2nd or 3rd stop along...I think it costs 32Kc now for a 75 minute ticket which will comfortably get you there with any of these directions...Sir Toby's is indeed an excellent choice but a little far out for some...however there are excellent tram connections, day and night...

All you need is to buy a CzK 110 (6 US) ticket that is valid on all metropolitan transport for 24 hours in any direction it includes buses, tram, underground and soma trains. You can get also for about 2 dollars (32 Czk) one way ticket valid for 90 minutes. In bus it cost a little more but the tickets are sold in tobacconists vending machines on stops Metro stations and so on. From the airport you go about 4 stops by bus to metro Dejvicka (- it's pronounced dey vit skah) and from there you have it 5 stops to the very center Mustek or Museum - both are on Wenceslas square. I'am suggesting the 24 hour ticket for it's convenience and you will appreciate the Prague's public transport - it's faster than car and safe and clean even after midnight5
From the airport you go about 4 stops by bus to metro Dejvicka (- it's pronounced dey vit skah)It's actually the last stop on the bus so you don't have to worry too much about counting the stops...just get off when you see the bus pull up and everyone else disembarking...the metro is straight in front of you then...

I have spend one week in Prague this spring and I'll recommend you to choose accommodation somewhere between Namesti Republicu (Republic square) and Karluv Most (Bridge Karlo). All tourist sights are on walking distance and I think that you might find a place to stay within your estimated budget :-) http://crispy-hotels.com/
B&B was my choice, but there are hotels and apartments as well. The map on the website is very useful.
You have to taste Becherovka :-)
Have a nice trip.

We loved the Czech Inn in Vinohrady. Getting there from the airport was easy- cant remember the exact steps but I think it was the airport bus to metro, then metro to namasti miru stop. From there you can walk or take the tram, which stops right outside. There are more detailed directions on their website.
