Yuunan - a few questions

Hello,
I'm currently in dali and I want to plan my next few weeks, so I have a few quesions:

1. I would like to do the Tiger Leaping Gorge and I heard about an option of extending the trekk to a 4-day trek to a place called baishtuai (or something like that) - white lime terraces. Does anybody know how does it work? Is it essntial to do it with a guide or make special preperations ahead?

2. I'm planning to spend some time in Deqin, but I couldn't find any real details of trekking in that area. I know of Yubeng village, but it seems this place has much more to offer. Where do i start?

3. Does anyone knows if the 'Back-door' to Sichuan is open? (the litang-daocheng-kanding-whatever) I can find info only about TAR. I know that a few weeks ago it was still closed, but whaut now? is there a way to know when it will be open?

Any answer would help.
Thank you,
Ori
:)

To answer your second question, you can trek from Xidang (Xidang is bit over an hour from Deqin) to Yubeng village (about 6 hours) , then to Holy Waterfalls (5 hours there and back) or Holy Lake (bit more demanding) or Glacier Lake (maybe 8-10 hours there and back) and back to Xidang through Ninong. Also Mingyong glacier which is just one day (take a car from Feilaisi to Mingyong, walk the glacier and back to Feilaisi).

For your Q1, I was here in 2007.
At TLG, by local bus or on foot will reach Baishtuai (white lime terraces).
By bus, journey time from TLG (Tina's GH) needs 2 hours. From Shangri-La, journey time needs 3 hours.
For trekking, needs 2-days. Along the road, pass the Haba Snow Mountain and stay there. Continues your trekking on next day.
Most likely, you'll tending or stay in a village along the road.

FYI

Regarding 3: The backdoor is still closed. A notice at the ticket window of the bus station in Zhongdian in English and Chinese reads: No tickets are sold to foreigners for buses in direction of Sichuan or TAR.

I will be in Dali in 1 month and wondering if you have any suggestions on small no. Touristed villages? I am more interested in the natural settings and people photography vs buildings. Do yo suggest Dali? Is it green yet and is thre any farming going on yet or still too early?

Not too early to see farming. Dali is very touristy but plenty of villages around. If you don't mind going a bit further than a few kilometers, try Shaxi.
