Shining Path
US Magazine--The week--claims that the Shining Path is active again in Kepashiato, Peru.Article states they grabbed ten hostages at a "gas plant" Holding hostages for ransom. Last time I was in Peru the newspaper had pictures of a small herd of them (SL) armed with Browning automatic Shotguns. Hostages must be worth a lot if they can afford to buy Brownings with ransom money.
What is the story? Becoming active again?

Lots of stuff on the web this afternoon Storues do vary a little, howeverAppears that a force of SL consisting of either 80 or 150 people took hostage 10 or 20 or 30 or 35 people consisting of 20 Swedes or no Swedes. All stories may vary on number captured , but all agree that total released was 36 people.
assume that Sweden will send a horde of Berserkers to avenge this insult.

There's a small active narcoterrorist cell linked to the Shining Path, but it is isolated and strongly repressed by the military. As mentioned above, a couple of the higher ranking members of the cell were captured and jailed, about a month ago I think. Most of the leftover of the cell is unorganized and trying to look big and strong to the media, but they're not really doing much.
