Regional Work - Recommendations

Hey!

I will be arriving in NSW mid-May 2012 on a one year working holiday visa hoping to get three months of rural work out of the way when I arrive for my additional second year visa.

If anyone has any experience / already done this and could recommend a few places - that would be awesome! It would be amazing if housing/room was included and I was able to find a reputable placement. I am constantly searching online but would love to hear about your experience!

Thank you in advance for your post!

Cheers!

I'm in exactly the same position my man, flying into aus mid may and I figured Queensland is probably the hottest place and from what I hear it's the best for seasonal work so I might as well get those 3 months out of the way!

Hi there,

I too am looking at heading over to Oz in May.
Am I right in thinking then that after applying for the working holiday visa (valid for 1 year), that by doing 3 months seasonal work this extends the working holiday visa to 2 years?

mikemk - good news then. got the month of April to try and sort out something. As for location, more then likely Perth. Got a friend whose over there at the moment working on a farm for a few months, plus that seems to be the place everyone tells me about with regards to getting work either driving, in the mines, construction etc. And finally I've been told its the best place to make a good amount of cash which should allow you a lot more free time.
btw, the 'MK' in mikemk, wouldn't happen to stand for 'Milton Keynes' would it?

Really? If that's the best place for work then I'll most definitely head out there, that's the biggest thing I'm worried about as I'm only bringing around £2000 with me :P Do you know when exactly you're going? I'm hoping to head off at the very end of may or the very beginning of june kind of area.
And no it doesn't, but I do coincidently happen to live just south of milton keynes haha

mikemk - yes mate. Tbh that what I keep getting told by folk in Australia and New Zealand. I've got a friend who's just left a few weeks ago and is apparently doing a few months seasonal work (I'm assuming to get the extension on the visa) and am trying to get in touch with him to see how he went about getting the seasonal work. After the seasonal work (and hopefully get the extension on the visa), I'll then try and get some work, ideally mining, driving HGV's, construction but I ain't too fussy, as long as it allows me to save a bit.
My plan is look for this seasonal work, and possibly try and get something confirmed in the month of April.
My leaving date is the same as you, end of May, beginning of June. I'll have that booked though probably end of April, beginning of June.
LOL about the 'mk' in mikemk. I just thought i'd check. Last year I went to China and whilst in Shanghai met a guy who had the same first name as me, same age, lived about 5-10 mins from me knew the same set of friends and was doing the same trip as me (Beijing to HK - although HK to Beijing)!!! It's surprising what a small world it is out there!!

Hey guys~

Wanted to give you both two links I have been using:
1. http://jobsearch.gov.au/harvesttrail/towncroplist.aspx?State=NSW
2. http://www.aquabumps.com/noticeboard/?key=5 (under the Noticeboard I have seen a few job postings. I am actually talking to a country getaway farm to see if they take farmhands on for rural work through his site.) Also aquabumps is awesome in and of itself regardless!

If I lock anything in I will let you know. My friend who went down a year ago ended up linking up with a bunch of people once she arrived. They were able to hire a car and drive out to farms for work - landed some pretty sweet deals doing this.

Keep me posted on your plans!

Cheers,
Kim

Canuck333 - thanks for adding those links to this thread.
I was just about to post up on here if anyone has got any links to such things.

If I get any joy with anything I'll keep this thread updated.

hey folks, hows the plans coming along?

Just been speaking to a friend who did the whole travel/work thing in Oz and he did this when he first arrived

http://www.outbackpackers.com/

Looks like its £500 for the course but does offer you guaranteed work at the end. I'm going to get more details from him. If this is of any interest and you want any details specifically let me know and i'll pass on the message.
