3#1 seems to misunderstand "budget". According to my research, you'll be pretty comfortable with 30-50 USD p/d. I've personally budgeted 45 USD pd, including contingency and feel this leaves up some space.
My understanding is that you can easliy survive on 20-30 USD, sleeping in dorms an eating at street vendors.

4Hi. You will be probably more than OK with around 1000€, thinking about 50€/day x 20 days (probably you will expend even less depending the time of the year you go).
If you want to be a bit more safe, bring 1200-1300 € just in case. I recomend 100€ bills (or 50€ bills), so you can change them one by one easier and don´t run around with a lot of IRR. Keep you € bills clean and perfect (no cuts) in some type of internal money belt.

You can certainly survive on that as the USD has increased a lot, then a hostel may cost like 10 or even less. A dorm can be around 6 $ except for Tehran.
Fast foods are generally less than 2 $.
Intercity buses 5 - 12 $.
Iran is becoming a good destination for budget travelers despite all political difficulties and sanctions.
enjoy your trip!

9My experience : I traveled alone in Iran for 20 days in last dec.- Jan. 2012,
visited about 8 cities + some small towns for daytrip, stayed mostly in dorm-room, but sometimes also in single room, ate enough, usually fast-food or local food, but sometime in restaurant, joined a tour around Yazd, entrance fees are total cheap = spent about 300 Euro! ;)

13Yes, It's right. 1USD = 19000 IRR now. but we have two price for dollar in Iran.
first 1 USD = ~19000 IRR ( 1900 Toman ) : this is free price for dollar and you can buy and sell your dollar with this price in exchange shops and you can buy and sell every money that you need.
second 1 USD = ~12000 IRR ( ~1200 Toman ) : this is official price and you can buy or sell 1500$ with this price not more. and you can do this work in banks or exchanges with your ticket plane and your passport.

The exchange rate in the open market is very volatile. It was 19000 a couple of days ago. Yesterday it dropped to 16700 after the talks between Iran and 6 world powers.
Today it's 17800.
You'd better try exchange offices (called Sarafi) in main streets down town like Ferdowsi in Tehran.
