Accommodation for Diving vacation in the Yucatan/Cabo?

Hi, I'm solo traveler from India to Mexico on a dive vacation 26 April to 11 May, 2012. I'm stuck on deciding where and how to stay to have the best possible time.

1. 26 Apr - 02 May: I'm tending to favour Cancun as there's plenty in the same area: Cozumel, Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen to name a few. What's overwhelming is the sheer number of dive spots that are listed; where would be the best place to stay in terms of ease of moving around? I'm thinking real basic: leave in the morning and get back in the night. I'm not going for the party so i don't mind staying out of the city. Diving and whale sharks are top priority on my list but i would also like to have a couple of days for moving around to Mayan ruins and exploring the country's history.

2. 02 May - 10 May: Los Cabo. I am trying to get on a live aboard for this period of time but if there are good accessible options on land, i'd love to take 'em.

Appreciate any advice you guys have. Any additional options i ought to explore would also be handy!

Thanking you,

Mukund

You can check the link below out, it is 3 blocks from the highway, so easy access to the above mentioned.

You are unfortunately too early for swimming with whale sharks, season runs June-September.

The top dive sites in the yucatan are in cozumel. Also the cenotes are amazing dives as well. Try staying in playa for easy diving access and tank-ha dive shop has a direct boat to the cozumel dive sites right from the beach. Then you dont have to take the ferry over. Happy diving !
