How to get from Tampere airport to Helsinki?
Could anyone help me with the information about the connections between Tampere airport and Helsinki? I believe there are no direct ones. So any bus companies and their timetables from/to the Tampere airport to Tampere train station? Is train a better option to travel between the two cities than bus?1
Whau - Tampere is FAR from Helsinki - nearly 200 km.The airports homepage: http://www.finavia.fi/airports/airport_tampere-pirkkala?pg=1091732 links (as usual) to the busschedule to town - and on Tamperes homepage www.tampere.fi there are links to long distance busses and to the train schedule. The train takes 2+ hours.
Personnaly I would always prefer a comfortable train over a bus. Trains in WEurope also tends to be much faster.

Yep, at 173-180km (depending on the temperature?) from Helsinki, it's strange that Ryanair don't have a bus connection from Tampere Airport to Helsinki, like in Paris Beauvais airport and Paris (80km) & Frankfurt Hahn airport and Frankfurt (120km)- unlike them to lose a potential monopoly on making money!Edited by: IPHarri

I agree with Richiavo, I mean, why didn't you just spend all your money on an expensive flight direct to Helsinki?? I mean, who ever heard of backpackers on a modest budget trying to discover a country on their limited budgets! :-p6
Why the sarcsim 6 OP has asked how to get to Helsinki from Tampere airport and has not mentioned backpacking around Finland, I tend to find that flying to another airport quite a distance away to save on flights is not always that cost effective. Not sure how much the bus is but the train is over €100 return.Edited by: richiavo

the train is over €100 return.That's not true. If you book early enough, you'll get a single ticket for a commuter train for 12,11 euros, for an InterCity 15,50 and for a Pendolino for 18,25. If you don't book in advance, you'll have to pay a double price. Even then the most expensive return ticket will cost 73 euros.

Hi There,Ive would recommend buss, you can get ticket around 18-23 euros from tampere to Helsinki. There is also trains going, but its a litle bit more expensive and it doesnt save you so much time. However, its possible to get cheap train tickets, but then you have to make a boooking at least 7 days before you are travelling. By bus, you will also see a litle bit more of the "true" finnish life:) Wish you a nice stay, and if yoy have any more questions, let me now:)
