National Parks and Running in Kazakhstan

Hello - just checking on two things;

1. Are guides / rangers required to enter National Parks / Reserves in Kazakhstan, e.g. Sayram-Ugam or are you free to enter on your own providing you pay the park fees.

2. Anyone know of any running races in Kazakhstan / Kyrgyzstan or if trail running / mountain running generally occurs in these two countries/

Cheers!

Hey Chinaman_Math,

No idea on the national parks thing I'm afraid. On the running side it doesn't seem that running is very popular in Kazakhstan. I get a lot of stares when I'm out jogging and don't see many other joggers. The only races that I'm aware of are run by expatriates. Last weekend there was a triathlon in Astana and in May there will be a 10k in Astana and a half marathon in September. There may be a more active running scene in Almaty but I will let others more knowledgeable comment on that.
