Procedure for getting visa stamped in passport at a Libyan Embassy
I was in communication with someone this past week who had been granted an electronic number (with letter of invitation from a host company) for a business visa to Libya from the immigration office in Tripoli. This number/information was faxed to the Libyan Embassy in London from the immigration office in Tripoli, and I thought it might be helpful to share the process that was needed to get the visa actually stamped in the passport in London. Here is what we found out...The fee is 100GBP for the actual visa stamp; they accept passports for visas on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 10-12:30 in the morning; the passports have to be delivered in person, but it sounds like one person can take multiple in; there is a form that has to be filled out and passport pictures turned in as well; and once they have the passport it’s a 48 turn around. One can either pick up the completed passport after the 48 hours or provide them with a registered mail, self addressed envelope and they will drop it in the mail when it’s completed, returned within 24 hours of posting.

In Vienna it is 140 Euro for the business visa. You can drop off the passport (including the arabic translation which you get for 40 euros at a "Gerichtsuebersetzer") of another person if you have a note stating you have power of attorney. Nationals of other countries need to provide a "Meldezettel". Everybody needs to provide 2 passport pictures and has to fill out a form.You have to come back 3 business days later to pick up the passports with the visa. But somebody else can do this for you as long as you have the payment receipt. They don't mail the passport even if you provide an envelope.
I found them very helpful, however it seems as if nobody ever answers the phone.

Does anyone have any idea how to actually contact the immigration office in Tripoli? Phone, fax, email, mailing address, anything?3
It doesn't seem like there is an easy way to communicate with the immigration office in Tripoli other than having someone go there in person. We have also asked for phone numbers before and not had any success. Email doesn't seem to be a great form of communication with offices (or even hotels, for that matter) in Libya yet. Sorry not to be able to provide more information to help!4

In the Netherlands (The Hague) the process is:2 photos are required, copy of passport and ticket (or a letter that you are going overland). The stamps cost €60 each, and they're only open on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 until 1 o'clock. They require one week to process things.

I heard from someone this week that they are having trouble getting their Libyan visa stamped in their passport at the Libyan Embassy in Washington D.C. This particular person has a letter of invitation from a host company in Tripoli for a business visa, and the electronic number for the visa was faxed from Immigration in Tripoli to the Libyan Embassy in Washington D.C., but when they went to get the stamp, the Embassy said their "system was down." When it came back up, they said they no longer had the information needed from Immigration in Tripoli and that it needed to be resent. Anyway...just wanted to give you a heads up that you may need some extra time if you're looking to get a visa through the Libyan Embassy in Washington D.C.Edited by: JillWilson
