Cartagena - Tayrona in 11 daysHoneymooning in Cartagena, have 11 days. I can rent a car or bus it to get from Cartagena to any nearby beaches including Santa Marta / Tayrona.
Where should I spend most of our time if we intend to relax, swim, eat, and wander July 3 - 12.
Is it better to stay in Cartagena and day-trip or should we just go to Santa Marta / Tayrona and stay there for multiple days?
I don't like crowds. Where is it worse to be on weekends -- in the city or beaches? And which days are worst? Friday Night/Saturday/Sunday?

1If you don't like crowds then Cartagena is not the best place to be - beaches are not nice there really at all. You can go to some of the outer beaches which a a little less packed. Maybe a visit to see the old city and then to Santa Marta. You could go to Baru or one of the other islands (Rosario) and stay there.
santa Marta is 3 hrs away by car. If you stay in Rodadero, it is not that crowded at all on the week days. The beach north of there; Playa Salguero is nicer and a fraction of the crowds. Don't stay in Rodadero main fri sat night as they play terrible music on the beach until late. Tayrona is spectacular - and you can get away from crowds there. If it is your honeymoon, maybe you are splurging - there are very nice cabinas in park Tayrona, right on the beach, that are remote (Ecohabs - spelling).

2There are other honeymoon options you could consider ,they may not be in the park but are close enough...
