ideasfor a getaway between OH&MI...s.w.ON/CA?

looking for a midway point getaway between cleveland OH and kalamazoo MI for a weekend. one coming from MI and one coming from OH, both will be driving up to 5hrs, so looking at areas surrounding the west tip of Lake Erie. I know nothing about the area, so looking for clever ideas! Detroit doesnt really sound appealing...it's kind of a first date / vacation, so basically - i want to suggest something not everyone knows about, where we can feel alone but not stuck. ;) We are both artists, so looking for recharge/inspiration/photo opps.
we both enjoy camping well enough, but not too rugged - not too remote to set up a tent reasonably close to the car. it should be not too expensive, but not too commercial. so if you have any great hotel finds, or museum/cultural areas, even a cabin in a park is ok too, anything with hopefully lots of nature to watch and some water maybe.

what about Lake St. Clair? is that too close to Detroit for a nature trip? Point Pelee Nat'l Park?

I suppose your thoughts of a "getaway" in the "rust belt' and major transportation corridor is some thing of a joke ? The rest of the post is code...Kindly make another attempt... A helpful response comes hard...carracar

Although there are lots of camping opportunities on both sides of the border in this region, they are heavily used and not always the nicest. You could try to go to some of the Lake Erie islands on both the US and Canada. They are not particularily "naturistic" but you can certainly find places to stay or camp. You want nature and quiet, but yet not remote, you don't mind camping buy you don't want to get your hands dirty... And you want camping/nature and culture/museums together?... What is this? A joke?... You can't be serious...

I would suggest you and your friend go a bit further north.. in either Michigan or Ontario to get away from the urban/industrial hell.

You'd best have a good look at a road map of this region and just see how little chance there is for a nature getaway.

Maumee Bay State Park is nice and has a lodge and camping. It is close to Toledo which has a very nice art museum and zoo. Also a decent "urban" river walk.
