Teaching in Oman

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone who has experience teaching English in Oman could give me some advice.

I recently finished my Celta certificate and I have two prior years of experience (1.5 Korea, .5 Syria) but these were pre-celta and not at a college level.

I was told that it's still possible to get a job even though the requirements clearly state a degree in English (mine was in International Relations) and 3 years of experience. However, I get the feeling the person who told me it was possible to get a job with my credentials wasn't being entirely honest and I would like to get another opinion. If it's way out of my league then I can just shift my focus to some other countries which require less experience.

Thank you for any help you could offer me, I really appreciate it.

I'm not a teacher but I know several people here (in Oman) who are. Yes, officially you need your teaching qualifications plus experience, but in reality they're likely to accept less. I've even been told that I could get a job simply on the basis that I have a Degree (not a teaching or English one I might add) and am a native English speaker. There is great need for English teachers. Many of them are of Indian descent and have a peculiar grasp of the language...

You will struggle to even get an interview with any state school with anything less than a Master's. Organizations like AmidEast, which will hire you without one, pay horribly
