From Jeddah to Thessaloniki
HelloMy mother and I need to get from Jeddah - Saudi Arabia to Thessaloniki - Greece and be there in the 5th of May and leave in the 12th of May.
I looked into our flying options and I got confused and one option was over our budget which is 1000$ for the round trip for both of us.
I need help please do you think we should go via Istanbul? Is the train a good option? I usually die when I'm locked in a plane for over 3 hours and my mother is a senior so again is the train a good option? Or should we go via Athene though the strikes news worries me because I need to be there in the 5th?
Your help is much appreciated thank you.

"From Jeddah to Thessaloniki: is the train a good option?"Should that be a late April Fool's joke?

You can find cheap flights from SA to Istanbul (Air Arabia that I know of), but it leaves you to Sabiha Gokcen airport.. If you don't like buses (which are very comfortable by the way), there is a new direct airport line Thessaloniki - Istanbul from Turkish airlines, but you will have to catch it from Ataturk airport in Istanbul. No trains between turkey and greece for the moment.

You can shorten the bus trip, if you take the bus up to Alexandroupoli only and go on from there by train:Istanbul dp 10.00 and 22.00 - Alexandroupoli ar 16.30 and 3.30am

Alexandroupoli dp 7.25 and 15.43 - Thessaloniki ar 13.08 and 22.08
Other solution: train from Istanbul up to Edirne, taxi to the Greek border and another one from there up to Orestiada, then train dp 12.20 to Alexandroupoli ar 14.38 where you can change to the 15.43 train mentioned above.
But check and recheck Greek railway timetables before starting.

Air Arabia flights to Istambul but via Sharjah (UAE).As japetus said in #2, there aren't trains running from Turkey to Greece. In fact, there aren't International trains running to/from Greece at the moment.
By air, the best way is to fly with Turkish Airlines changing planes in Istambul. I don't know if it'll be within your budget though.
