Best place to stay/visit in Hong Kong?
I was down in Hong Kong last month and fancied a change from the city. Sure the city is amazing and the night life a lot of fun, but the out laying islands are also well worth a visit. With no roads and no cars Lamma is such a nice change from big city life. Everything is relaxed, with paths leading off all over the island, up and over hills and down to beautiful little beaches. (you can check out some of my pics here)
And it is amazing to think you could be in central Hong Kong in only a 30 min ferry ride and straight back into top gear, full speed and well... traffic.
So where is your favourite place?

There are a few holidays flats, and guesthouses on Lamma. Nice place to stay for a different view of Hong Kong. Another island you could stay is Cheung Chau, or parts of Lantau - Mui Wo and Tai O - offer a similar experience. But, if you want to stay in the city, then Mongkok, Wanchai, Causeway bay or Tsim Sha Tsui / Jordan are fine. If on a budget, rooms will be small without a view, but you are right in the thick of things.

Love the "old city" of Hong Kong Island from Shao Kei Wan in the west and Sheung Wan in the east, including Wan Chai, Central and...star ferry. My favorite part of Kowloon is Temple Street.
Also love hiking in HK. Lantau Island and Sai Kung are my favorites.

My favorite place? Gotta be the middle of Nathan Road. Second best, the sidewalk.4
Fav island in HK - Peng Chau (can spend a lazy afternoon at the ONLY foreign bar near by the pier drinking)Fav island in HK - Mui Wo (can rent a bike to cycle abit round the island)
Fav beach in HK - Shek O (if there is no one)
Fav beach in HK - Trio in Sai Kung (if not so many people, indeed water is really clear)
Fav hiking trail in HK - Dragon's back (view is just perfect)
Fav street in HK - Nathan Road (take a bus from the TST bus terminal, sit on the upper deck and overlooking the street!)
Fav chill out area in HK - TST pier (always like to sit there and grab a beer and talk with friends! what's better than having such a good harbour view, i mean for free!?)
Fav old district - Sheung Wan (can start walking from Central to Sheung Wan, see the modern Central and older traditional Sheung Wan)
Fav old district - Sham Shui Po (with Ap Liu Street, do i spell right? Many locals selling 2nd hand electronic stuffs like camera, etc making this market a little bit interesting)
Fav HIGHLIGHTS - GRASS ISLAND! (you will gonna like it, an island near by sai kung, where is so natural and quiet and with a big piece of grassland, sleep on the grass for the whole afternoon and enjoy sunlight is just perfect!!!!!!!!!!)
Many many more... can't really quote only 1 favourite place!

I'd prefer the Lamma Island, very different from the impression of "noisy" and "crowded" Hong Kong
