Last reports we have (April this year) of the route via Brazil (Boa Vista-Lethem-Georgetown) were that the road is in very bad shape. This was in comparison to the road from Rorainopolis to Boa Vista, the first two thirds of which are in poor condition, making this the worst federal highway in Brazil. (according to the highway authorities themselves). The road from the border to Georgetown is unlikely to have improved since these reports. If you go this way, please give us a report.

Thanks Misslamaha. We didn't expect to be a road linking both. Just to know whether there is possible to cross the border, for instance by boat. I read somewhere (LP or Footprint) about a boatman crossing to/from Venezuela, probably to Orinoco delta or Warao communities. Probably from Mabaruma. Any idea about that?8
According to my Footprint , "it is possible to take a cargo boat to Mabaruma in Guyana from Curiapo. A trustworthy boatman is Bimbo, who lives at Wirma's guest house, where you can sleep if stuck in Curiapo (very likely). Contact Bimbo in advance through his sister in Tucupita; just ask for the "English woman" on Calle Amacuro -everyone knows her..." and more recommendations about cash and visas. But there is no one having taken this route that has written here.9
Yet another reference, this time from Bradt guide saying that there are "frequent boats that go to Venezuela. While most of these take passengers (US$100) use the utmost caution in choosing a captain if you choose on continuing overland to Venezuela". Apparently, many go illegally to smuggle gasoline and drugs. It also notes that you might be leaving Guyana illegally without proper immigration.
