What would you recommend doing around Mission Beach, Queensland?

I'm new to actually participating in the forums on Lonely Planet but have been using them for years when I research places to go.

The wife and I will be at Mission Beach for three days at the end of a two-week vacation through Queensland. By then we will have already spent days at Cape Trib, some at Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge, Daintree, Chillagoe and Tablelands.

By then we will have already snorkeled the reef twice, done a helicopter tour, hiked, explored caves, balooned, visited waterfalls, beach walked and just some general tourist hanging out.

I want to do the one day Xtreme Tully white water rafting on one of the three remaining days when we are at Mission Beach but any suggestions for the other two days? We don't dive (sky or water) so those are out. We don't fish and we're not much into sailing but other than that we're pretty open to adventures or laid back depending on what could be interesting.

On our last day we'll have the entire day to travel up from Mission Beach back to Cairns so we're planning on catching some things to do between the two locations.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Suggest you hire a tinnie from South Mission Beach and venture to any of the Family Group of islands just off shore...take a picnic and you will end up having a tropical island to yourself for the day. Good walks around including Bicton Hill in Bingil Bay, Licuala Track on the El Arish Mission Beach Road. Cheers from a local

Yeah, the rainforest walks looking out for cassowaries are good.

Mission Beach is a top spot to sit back and relax too though.

^^ those two have good ideas and, have just about covered Mission Beach..

It sounds like you have had a busy holiday indeed.. Maybe time to slow down and do nothing but sit at the pub and watch the world go by.. Nothing wrong with a pub meal to boot.

The cassowaries are something special for the area..

But then again, so is the pub !!!

good luck, its a great part of the far north coast.

I would google what has reopened or been rebuilt after Cyclone Yasi devastated the area in February last year. The pub might not even exist anymore :-(

Good advise from all of you. I think we do need some down time...pubs, beach walks and empty islands sound like the cure for that!

Maybe you guys can fill us in about how Mission Beach is looking.
Cyclone Yasi was a big blow, for sure.
THE BIG QUESTION....Is the pub still standing ?

cheers, hope you have fun.

Please guys - enough of the cyclone yasi devastation scare stories. Just about every pub/bar in mission beach was open within a couple of days of the cyclone that crossed close to there a year ago

Don't you think the business there have suffered enough without you spreading dis-information
