5 days only in Morocco

My husband and I have only 4 full days in Morocco. We land in Casablanca and would like to spend a couple of days in another town. Fez? Essaouira? Suggestions, please, and thank you.

I have never been to Essaouira but I think that Fez is worth a day or two.

I would suggest getting the train to Fes as soon as possible and base yourself in Fes. You will find plenty to do in Fes for four days. Maybe take a day trip to do the loop to Volubils, Moulay Idriss and onto Ilfrane and Azrou.

You will use a lot of your short time in Morocco on travelling to Essaouira.

Or take the bus to Essaouira, then to Marrakech and back to Casablanca via Beni Mellal with visit of waterfall Ouzoud.

Woodbee, I think a lot depends on your age and energy level. With only 4 full days, don't spend any time at all in Casablanca

If you are leaving from Casa, many on this forum may suggest Rabat/Sale which have a lot to offer.

With only 4 days base in either Fes or Marrakech and take a day or overnight side trip from there. You don't have time to do much. Get out of Casa as quickly as possible via train to Marrakech or Fes.

I agree Rabat/Sale is worth a visit IF they had time...but they don't.

I agree with the other posters - don't bother with Casablanca (exotic in name only) and head immediately somewhere else and base yourself there.

Personally, I'd get traight on the train and head for Fes. Plenty to see and do there, and you can do a really fabulous day trip to Volubilis and the Holy mountain village of Moulay Idriss if you want. Just noticed, I've made the same recommendation as rachael68!

A close second choice, grab the train to Marrakech.

If you are leaving from Casablanca too, I'd recommend leaving enough time there to visit the legendary Hassan II mosque, the largest mosque in Morocco. It is well worth seeing and going on the mosque tour

Take a pass on Casablanca...its a crowded, big, busy city that is a pain in the butt to get around..

Essaouira is a must in my book. Really relaxed and pretty. Its also quick and easy to get to.

I found a free magazine in Marrakech with a great article about Essaouira and used it a lot when I headed there. Its called VMV and its online also. www.vmvmarrakech.com

Agreed, not much in Casablanca. My wife and I (mid 40's) have travelled throughout Morocco recently and LOVE Marakech. If I had 4 days they would be spent in Essaouira and Marakech. Both are a bit touristy vs Fes which will give you a more authentic Moroccan experience.

My thoughts mirror the popular opinion:

Get out of Casa, asap via train to either Marrakech or Fes, with a day-trip or overnight to Essaouira/ High Atlas from Marrakech...Or Meknes/ Volubilis from Fes. Both are good choices, but I would lean toward Marrakech if it's your 1st time in Morocco. Have fun!
