Luxury escape in England

One more question for my trip to England a little later in the year- probably not the last either :-) Obviously I will Google but would love some personal recommendations if possible.

We're looking for an indulgent escape within 2 hours drive of Hastings for 2 - 3 nights.

The facts:

No more than 500 pound/ night ideally
It'll be cold so would like a nice view (Sea or Mountains is good for us) but don't necessarily need an outdoor area
Want a nice sitting area to read a book or play a board game
Must have access to good restaurants or good food / wine
Not looking for any particular activities but if there's a nice walk nearby that'd be good

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you!

Wow - heaps to choose from with a two hour drive from Hastings. There are no Mountains in Sussex so that view won't happen. For sea views maybe think of Brighton (The Grand Hotel), Bournemouth or Eastbourne. However, if you want somewhere inland with lovely walks, Eastwell Manor just outside Ashford in Kent is lovely, as is Lympne Castle. That will give you distant views over the Romney Marsh and the sea; and is about an hour from Hastings. Hope you have fun.

That's not a common request on this site, but I used to live near Chewton Glen about10 miles east of Bournemouth which might be worth a google.

Pure luxury - and around two hours from Hastings....

No mountains or sea views, but a lovely outlook towards the hills.

I guess it's a bit more than two hours, but I've heard great things about this place:

I've stayed there and it is amazing - if you like Art Deco!!!! It is in a wonderful setting, great atmosphere and food..... you are expected to seriously dress for dinner, especially on Fridays and Saturdays when there is a band or singer.... their motto is 'it is impossible to be over-dressed here' - brilliant.

Probably 4 hours drive though.....

@ Bellart - sounds great - I believe I'm going there for an ashes-scattering at the end of the year!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Looks like Burgh Island or the New England Beach house are the front runners.

Can't wait!
