Globe Prepaid SIM Card
I would like to buy a Globe prepaid SIM card when I land in Manila next month. My phone is set up to use a micro SIM card. Does anyone know if Globe sells micro SIM cards?3
other things being equal, Smart is the best SIM to have. They have more subscribers than Globe, and their promo deals are better. I do have a Globe and also a Sun SIM though too as Sun is getting more and more popular with budget conscious Filipinos, with cheap unlimited text and call offers. If you have all three of these SIMs you will find that the Smart one is by far the busiest. The Smart roaming service is also much better than Globe's.5
For web browsing, you just need to register your sim card by sending a text message. There're plenty of plans for that (daily, monthly, unlimited web browsing, facebook only etc), and each has a code that you need to text. I think there are also sim cards pre-registered- according to your intended use- that you could buy. Make sure your iPhone is jailbroken7
You also need to know if your phone is locked. Here in Canada, we are restricted to whatever carrier we signed on with, costs $30 here to have it unlocked, we have very poor competition rules. I have a cheap 1200php phone for the Phils and one for home. I'm told its around 500php to have a phone unlocked in the Phils.8
My service provider already unlocked my iPhone so that's not a problem. I still have the regular SIM card I used last year but I think it's probably useless now since I have not used it for a while. If I buy a new one, then I will just get the micro SIM if it is available and it looks like it is. I will be looking for a SIM that can do all functions at the outset.Thanks.

with Smart SIMs all you have to do is text ROAM ON to 333 and people can text you same way as if you're in the Philippines as long as, they say, you maintain a 100 peso balance - but that might not even be true, I'm not sure as I never check my balance because when you're on roaming, it costs 20 pesos to check. I get someone there to load me up with 20 pesos per month in the Philippines, but this isn't really necessary. Last year my SIM wasn't loaded for at least four months but I still received texts all the time and it worked immeadiately as soon as I returned, 10 minutes after texting ROAM OFF to 333. The SIM may work. Bring it along anyway.Edited by: callippo
