costa rica: place to stay for semana santa?
Himy husband and I are traveling to costa rica from 2-18 of april. Since we will be in CR for semana santa, we are looking for some help with a good itinerary.
We will probably spend a night or 2 in San Jose and would like to head to a nice beach town. We would prefer a "classical" beach, more for swimming than surfing. We know during semana santa its hard to find a decent hotel or transportation, so we are looking for a good place to lay low during that period. It would be nice if we could see some festivities, but it's not a must. We have experienced it before.
So, could anyone recommend some must see places? we know our time is limited, but thats al we have. We are normally independent travelers and like to "wing it". But with semana santa and limited time, we might have to plan ahead a bit more I guess.
about us: we both speak fluent spanish since we lived in central america before (some years ago), we like to go out and be among people (eating/ drinking) and would like to keep our budget around 75 euro's a day (including food, drinks, travel). Is that realistic?
Al help is very much appreciated!

No need to stay in San Jose more than 1 day. For Easter weekend I would avoid the beaches without reservations. Arenal, Rincon, Tenerio, Orosi, anywhere but the beach.Your best bet for a beach that weekend with a large amount of lodging to choose from is Tamarindo and Manual Antonio, and possibly Mal Pais.

thanks for your answer solohobo! Really helpful. Will it be unpleasant on the beaches because of semana santa? we are planning to make reservations for that period in any case, since we know it might be very hard to just find a place otherwise. Would it be ok if we where able to make reservations? or would it end up being a big hassle?
is there any beach you would recommend because it is nice to go (before or after semana santa)?
and what time period should we try not to travel? from 5th to 8th or longer? or is it possible to travel but should we buy like a bus ticket ahead? and is that possible from abroad or should we do that while in san jose? Since we arrive on the 2 of april and we are meeting friends probably for a drink on the 3th, we would probably want to travel somewhere on the 4th. But staying in one place from the 'til 8/9 is a bit long probably, unless it is in a really nice beach town (we don't mind hanging out a bit longer on a beach). So what would you recommend on that?
Should we ditch our friends and try to leave on the 3th so we could go somewhere for 2 days and travel again on the 5th? or is it already very hard to travel by then?
Sorry, a lot of questions again, really hope you (or someone else) can help us some more with this,
Great thanks in advance!
