Hi....* jongiddings - and welcome to Thorn Tree.I hope you have a very long and happy stay here, with us all.
Yours is not a stupid question at all, but you haven't said where you're travelling from - or where you're based, so I don't know how freely available Hyrvnias are in your country.
As an example though, the currency is available here in The UK - but the exchange rate is nowhere near as good as locally in Ukraine.
The airport rates in UA are not very good, but in the towns there are plenty of change booths that will give you a much better rate.
ATM's are available - but it's a good move to check with your bank what their charges (fees) are, for overseas transaction.
I hope that's a bit of help for you to be going on with.
I really like Ukraine and it's people, but L'vov isn't my favourite hang-out.
Good luck with everything.

I too enjoyed visiting the Ukraine, the people were so welcoming and I had no problems there. To answer the op, I'd just buy local currency when you arrive at the airport. I arrived at Kiev airport and found none of the ATMs would accept my bank card, not sure why. I had kept cash on hand to exchange and that is what I did. I was able to use my bank card at an ATM once in town.

Hi!If you take cash (USD, EUR) with you, it will be no problem to change it to Hrivna (UAH).
Cards also accepted in a lot of places like supermarkets, shops, restaurants, hotels, etc.
We also have a lot of banks in Kiev. So no problems to make any change you need.
