Where to spend christmas
Hi allI have booked flights to Paris for November/ December, I will be travelling around France and Spain.
I fly out of Paris on the 27th December, so am looking for reccommendations for where in France to spend christmas. I am hoping for snow, or at least very cold temperatures!
I am happy to spend time anywhere, I was just hoping for somewhere that does a really special or unique christmas day.
Thanks in advance

Personally,i would take the easiest option...spend Christmas in Paris. There probably won't be snow, but there will be Christmas markets,a skating rink, lots of trees and decorations, mulled wine stalls etc.And it will be cold enough ;-)
Then...you can enjoy it without worrying about travelling over Christmas..

And you go also to Metz or Strasbourg, both cities have a long history with Christmas markets and are different to what offer Paris. If snow, what is not sure, you will find it more in the region surrounding Starsbourg, the mountain called 'Voges' or on the other side of the Rhine river in the Balck Forest. Good connection by TGV from Strasbourg direct to Paris.3
I'd say it depends on what time your flight leaves Paris. If it is an evening flight than you could consider somewhere other than Paris. If it is an early flight you would need to be in Paris the day before anyway (26th) making it rather impractical to spend Xmas eve and Xmas day elsewhere.Generally, Europeans spend Xmas day with family and friends, not entertaining tourists. So I'm not sure what your expectations really are. I also would suggest Strasbourg but I'm not sure just how much will be going on on Xmas Day itself, for you to enjoy.

Thanks for your suggestions, Strasbourg looks very pretty! We are still playing with the idea of staying in Paris for Christmas - it sounds beautiful! we'll be there early December already though so was hoping to include a different city, being tourists in a town is hard on christmas day, and while I don't expect everyone to be out and about purely for my entertainment, I wondered if there would be a city with something going on. Singapore for example has a parade christmas day!
@Lucapal you might be right though, staying in Paris will save us travelling!

I don't know of any city with particular events on Christmas Day in this part of Europe...as said above,it tends to be a family event. Most people will stay at home...maybe go for a walk or to church-that's about it.At least in Paris there are plenty of restaurants etc.open on the 25th.Never been to Strasbourg at Christmas so I don't know what you would be able to do there.....

I also think you should stay in Paris- although it's unlikely to have snow. If you must see snow, you have to go to the mountains. To be honest, being anywhere for Christmas can be pretty boring as lots of things will be closed. your best bet is a city as at least there will be stuff to do. And you can visit some of the larger churches on Christmas day, which can be nice. Strasbourg is probably OK as well, and you may see some snow on the Vosges mountains.

Paris it shall be then!
