3I got a Sudan visa in Cairo (I have Canadian passport) back in August so not sure if things have changed since then. At that time, they initially verbally refused my attempt at the counter, but as I already had an Ethiopian visa, he then allowed me to go through with the application. So it may be a good idea to try and get your Ethiopian visa first and specifically show them this. I had already gotten my Ethiopian visa before I left for my trip. The visa costed 100USD and I picked it up the next day.

5Gee, leaf, You are the first person on this forum who hasn't needed an LOI for Sudan in the 6 years I have been here. If as you said you get your Ethiopian visa prior to the Sudanese there may be hope yet of getting south without the LOI.
I am a bit over this LOI thing and its about time Sudan got its act together and simplified things for us all.
How was you trip and where did you go leaf?

6Simsy, laketraveller, leafscup thank you for response. Laketraveller, I looked up the thread you were talking about, got helpful hints too.
I called up Ethiopian Consulate in Moscow they issue visas same day 20 USD. So will do that.
Sudan Consulate not pick up the phone. So will apply for Sudan visa in Aswan (according to older thread, they don't sell ferry tickets unless have visa).
How was your trip and where did you go leafscup?

7Hey Simsy. I'm surprised to hear that as I seem to remember others avoiding the LOI back when I was researching in the TT forum before I went so fairly sure we werent the only ones. In fact I got the Ethiopian visa prior for this exact reason due to some previous posts. Not alot of embassies will issue the LOIs in Cairo was a common mention also. Anyway, this worked and perhaps I was very fortunate (?).
Dareau21 - I dont have many posts in my profile but search through my previous ones (click on my name and then "view full profile") so please see my posts back then on the Sudan visa in addition to alot of info I put in there about the Aswan to Wadi Halfa ferry.
We were only really passing through Sudan as we were trying to stick to overlanding, and pretty much went to Wadi Halfa and then to Khartoum for about 4 nights and then eastward toward Ethiopia...
