jump to
between San Diego and LA
Hi,I am planning to take the PCH in between San Diego and LA the coming weekend ie the 25, 26th Feb. We just want to stop by at a small cute beach town in between for a night or two (according to what we can do there) we are not into golf so I considered Catalina Island but not sure about the weather(look cold over the weekend). So looking for a better place with LA weather.
Please help me finding a place :-)
Thank you for all the replies....

What is it that you want to do there? Go to the beach? Catalina is just off the coast, so the weather there won't be that dissimilar from the weather along the coast. And PCH comes to an end in south Orange County, after that you have to get on the freeway to get to SD.But the first town that came to mind was Laguna Beach, followed by San Clemente. Parts of Newport Beach might even fit the bill, like Balboa Island or Corona Del Mar. But it all comes back to what you're looking to do.

Small cute beach town = Carlsbad. You'll also like Del Mar and Encinitas. It gets a bit too crowded when you're up in Orange County.3
Two ultimate California Beach towns- San Clemente and Seal Beach. Ten miles or so from San Clementeis Mission San Juan Capistrano- definitely worth the stop and right off the freeway. The weather is forecast
to be in the low 70's so the beach will be nice. Happy Travels!

I've spent time in every town between San Diego and Los Angeles, and I think the best for a short stay is Laguna Beach. Not only is it more beautiful than many of the towns along the coast because of its hills and coves, but it is set up perfectly for visitors. Everything is centered along PCH and around the small downtown. You can get around without a car, there are plenty of hotels near (or on) the beach, of all prices ranges, and there are plenty of good restaurants and shops.
Also, you mention you are looking for a "cute" town. I think Laguna fits that characterization better then almost any town in the area. It is small, and there is virtually not imprint of the boring and bland suburban/chain store look that permeates Southern California.
Also, its nice that its about halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles.

I agree with #2. Carlsbad fits the bill. Nice, quiet, quaint town not too far from San Diego. Dana Point is another good option. The further north you get to Los Angeles and Orange County, the worst the traffic. You might want to take that into consideration as well.
