Lilongwe to Cap Maclear to Lilongwe in one day

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to organize a daytrip to Cap Maclear from Lilongwe ? I guess that you need to rent a car and start very early ? how long would it take ? how much could it cost ?

best,
Anthony

Its certainly possible in one day, this is a regular weekend day trip for Lilongwe residents.
Its around 3 hrs by road. Be advised that car hire is expensive in Malawi, and fuel is currently often not only difficult to find but is expensive. (depending on your country of origin!). If you are in Lilongwe for a while, you should be able to ask around and find local hire people with perhaps only one or two vehicles, rather than the "large" companies.

If you are renting a car in Lilongwe go to the parking lot of the shopping center across from Shop Rite and ask one of the locals. Just be prepared to bargain hard.

I really wouldn't recommend Cape Mcclear in a day! Remember you shouldn't drive after nightfall as it's very dangerous, so that means you have to be back to Lilongwe by 6, so you'd have to leave by 2ish to do it safely. Which gives you a grand total of ooooh, maybe 3 hours at the Cape? Not worth it.

Try Senga Bay, 90 mins from Lilongwe, might not have the wow factor but still very lovely. Try Cool Runnings (nice food) or The Windmill for more seclusion.

Enjoy!
