Trekking in Uttarakhand in JuneHello,
1) My book says it's a great time to go, others say it's the monsoon so will I be getting wet or what?
2) Best place to find a guide or porter? I have to hire gear , I read there's a place in Rishakesh, any reports on the mountaineering club there in terms of finding good guides and gear? Is there a trekking scene there? If not, is there a trekking town with people to talk to such as in places like KTM or Pokhara in Nepal?
3) Anyone actually been in the area and can offer some insight?
4) Any other general tips or comments?

6The above info is correct. Gear in Rishikesh is expensive. Take your own tent or eventually link up in Uttarkasi with Indians the most organised.

7Yes I can offer some insight . Get in touch with Sunil Kumar, he is based in Nanital and his details mobile phone number are in the Lonely Planet. Can you access these or do you want me to send you details? He will advise on Rishikesh, Nepal or wherever you want to go in the region on or off the beaten track. He speaks excellent English and local dialects. Reply to this if you need any more details.

11Tell you the truth, nowhere is like Kathmandu so gear is exclusive or none existant. Bring your own. As I said Uttarkasi is your best shot at reasonable prices, and then.

13Greetings from Rishikesh !!
There are quite a few places in Rishikesh now for Trekking Gear Rental . Well actually you don't need to hire if you are thinking of taking a all inclusive trekking tour package. Trekking company will provide you Trek guide, all equipment: tent, sleeping bags, ground matts, toilet tents etc, all meals & transportation .

14There are no places in Rishikesh for rental. There is one supplier of limited but quality gear which is not cheap. Propane gas cannisters are availble since a year. Situation is changing fast, but.
