Many Nepal guide books are oriented towards trekking. Two that aren't that I recommend include:The Rough Guide to Nepal Paperback
James McConnachie (Author), David Reed (Author)
Publisher: Rough Guides; 6th Revised edition (October 19, 2009
Moon Handbooks Nepal Paperback
Kerry Moran (Author)
Publisher: Avalon Travel Publishing; 4th edition (February 2, 2004)

We just returned from 3 weeks in Nepal, and had both LP and RG books. Normally, I prefer RG, but for most places, LP was superior in this instance. Cannot speak to anything else.3
LP publish both a trekking and a general guide to Nepal.5
For General info I have always used Lonely PlanetThe only trouble with traditional paper guidebooks is that the information in them can often be out of date as by the time this is gathered, edited and printed months and sometimes years have passed.
So for up-to-date info sites like Virtual Tourist are excellent – These also have a facility that allows you gather the info that interests you and then print off your own guidebook.
Good Luck and Happy Travels
