Touring Ukraine in Euro 2012
Hi all,I have flights and tickets to the three England group games in Euro 2012. I will be travelling on my own so want to see a little more than Donestk (twice) and Kiev. How easy is it to get trains to other interesting destinations, and where would you recommend. Lviv or Odessa look interesting for a couple of days between games, but I'm worried that the trains are painstakingly slow and the distances are huge. What would you advise?
Also, what's the latest on the Lviv to Donetsk train?

Travelling in Ukraine is pretty easy. Trains between cities are usually night trains where you can get a decent sleep. Like that you also save on hotels.I´d recommend Lviv and Odessa for sure. You can do each one of them in 2 days. Lviv is the cultural underground capital with lots of unique places to go out and cosy caffes. Odessa has lots of classic night clubs on the beach.
Both boast great architecture and history.
If ou have some more time, go to Crimea. But Crimea is better with the car because there is lots of places to visit all around the coast. If you decide to visit just one city, that would be Yalta.

Hi!Trains Kyiv - Odesa (every day):
in Kyiv 23:14 - 08.50 in Odessa
in Kyiv 21:50 - 06.10 in Odessa
in Kyiv 18:37 - 05.36 in Odessa
Train Donetsk - Odessa (every day):
in Donetsk 17:20 - 09:17 in Odessa
If you want to visit Odessa traveling from Kyiv would be better. By bus it will take you nearly 5-6 hours, straight and good road)))

My boyfriend and I are also travelling to Ukraine for the Euro Cup (from Canada). We have tickets to two games - one in Donetsk and one in Kharkiv... We have about a week between the two games so we decided to head south to Crimea and the Black Sea in between. I booked our train tickets on the Ukraine Railways website (http://www.e-kvytok.ua/wps/portal).You can find a step-by-step guide to ordering Ukrainian train tickets here:

Also, I recommend using Google Chrome as your browser, as it will automatically translate webpages from Ukrainian/Russian into English.
Cheers!
