THE CLOSEST ELEPHANT SAFARI TO CAPE TOWN
I will be visiting South Africa for the first time and would like to do the Elephant Safari where I will have the opportunity to feed and ride the elephants. I will be staying at The Fire and Ice Hotel on New Church & Victoria Street in Cape Town and would like to know what is the name of the closest Elephant Safari to this hotel please. If you have the company's name, telephone and email address that would really be helpful. Thank you, this my first time going to South Africa and have been unsuccessful in locating a company that provides this adventure near the hotel, even if its within a 3 hour drive proximity from the hotel to get there, that would be ok as well. Thank you in advance for your help. A good company, not one that is going to rip me off please.1
3 hours drive around Cape Town will not get you out of the vineyards! The nearest Elephant Sanctuary is at Port Elizabeth and very expensive. No dodgy company can afford Elephants, these animals are costly in captivity!2
The closest reserve where you can SEE an elephant is Aquila http://www.aquilasafari.com/safarisThey won't allow you to ride/feed them however.
The closest reserve where you can feed/ride/interact with Elephants is here http://www.buffelsdrift.com/elephant-feeding-walking-and-riding-experiences/
But it's over 5 hours drive away from Cape Town...and if you're gonna go that far, rather just fly to Port Elizabeth and go to Addo Elephant National Park.
Sorry to disappoint you but Elephants are not as commonplace as you might think in SA and especially not in the Western Cape.

Ditto to the comments above. Knysna Elephant Park is also a good 3 hour experience but only for feeding and seeign/touching captive elephants. But that is 5 hours away from CPT. If ever you get to Livingstone in Zambia - do it there. A wonderful several hours ride on elephant back through real African bush. The Western Cape is stunning and varied, but elephants were long ago killed off in the wild.
