michoacan butterfly reserves and accomodations in Morelia
We are currently staying in patzcuaro and would like to know if anyone has been to see the butterflies lately. From our reading it sounds as though we should avoid the weekend and not go to Rosario.Any recommendations for places to stay and how tough the walks in are would be appreciated! We'd also like to know if anyone has recommendations for mid range places to stay in Morelia. Mille Gracias!1
We stayed at Hotel Margarita in the town of Angangueo. It is a basic hotel. Nothing fancy but clean and safe. There is a nicer hotel just across the street from it but costs more. We stayed at the cheaper hotel and ate in the restaurant at the more expensive one. It is cold up there in the night. The rooms are not heated. Bring a sweater. You can get a taxi from town to the butterfly sancutary. From the entrance it is not too bad of a walk for a fit person.3
The closest butterfly reserve from Patzcuaro is Angangueo and Hotel Don Bruno<< http://www.hoteldonbruno.com/www/ >> is a beautiful place to stay. Not sure if you are a member of Michoacan Net, the Yahoo forum, but they will provide you with more answers.

PS I have neither heard about not visiting the Rosario butterfly reserve. Would you mind sharing this information. Thanks,

I dont think the better hotel is any warmer, just nicer. None of them that I saw were heated. You could ask around for a room with a fireplace but that will cost you extra. Apparently there are some but I didnt check it out. I went to the El Rosario reserve. The closest town with decent hotels is Angangueo. It was warm during the day. Went to bed early and used extra blankets.Edited by: Find_Tom
