Long layover in Bogota tomorrow...... any ideas? Also 2 quick questions:
How much would a taxi cost (both ways) for transport between the El Dorado Airport and La Candelaria? Im budgeting on less than $25 USD for everything, transport and lunch.
Though I visited in the past, I cant remember the name of the specific neighborhood in the city with many upscale restaurants, bars, and a multi-level shopping mall with a food court at the top level, all in close proximity to one another. Anyone have an idea of where in Bogota this might be?? Names of street intersections would be appreciated for this...

Forget about it.
They have meters, don't they? You really have to be a dumbass to be talked out of using them.
Anyway the distance is not that small and it's costly even with the meter.

4If you just want to go to a nice shopping center, eat and people watch you can go to Centro Comercial Gran Estacion at Carrera 66 and Calle 26, here's what it looks like: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/49/im000393jn5.jpg/sr=1
You can take the bus and it'll be in your budget.
I've paid $12,000 COP ($6 USD) Candelaria - Airport, $15,000 COP Airport - Candelaria, $19,000 COP Candelaria-Airport on 3 separate rides with just me in the cab.
The taxis have meters which count "points" measuring distance. There should be a card behind the front passenger seat showing how many points correspond to the fare. I think around $12- 16,000 COP is a decent range depending on traffic. The guy that charged me $19,000 should have charged $15,000 COP, but he threw in some random "airport charge" which I don't even know if it actually exists. Ask how much the fare will be including all charges.
Also, from the airport to the Candelaria, I found the "official taxis" for which you prepay your fare to cost more ($20,000 COP) than just getting into one that's just dropped someone off. That was my $15,000 COP ride.
You can take the bus too, about $2,000 COP, gets you close, but not enough to not have to find your way for a few blocks.

5If they got charged 30usd it is because they were so wise as to catch a taxi outside the airport taxi rank. The taxi rank will charge around 10-12 usd to Zona Rosa around 8 to 10 usd to Candelaria. It will cost about 2 to 3 usd less back to the airport (there is a surcharge when taxis take you to the airport). You can always get a bus into town and then a taxi and save 4 or 5 usd. Same on the way back just take a taxi to El Dorado Avenue maybe around Boyaca avenue and then catch a bus into the airport.

620,ooo to zona rosa. Do it all the time. Ask for Zona T zona rosa, or calle 82 with 15 will get you close enough. A closer nice shopping centre is Salitre - you pass it on the way from the Airport.
