Valley of the Kings & QueensHi there,
Looking at heading to Egypt either 2012 or 2013. A must view for me is Valley of the Kings & Queens. I hear they will be closing this sometime & replicating it somewhere. Can anyone tell me if they know when this will be closing as I am keen to see it before hand but not sure when that is.

1The VoK and the VoQ are two different places, I would suggest that you consult a good guidebook before going much further.
Rumours always abound in Egypt and especially in Luxor, but at the moment not much is happening 'Antiquities' wise. I don't believe that anyone can answer your questions with any degree of confidence.
There are plenty of other absolutely fabulous sites to visit in and around Luxor while you are there, some are more impressive than the Tombs of the Pharaohs. As long as the country is not decimated by fanatics after the elections; your trip should be well worthwhile. This is a truly fascinating country and culture, with the added unique wonders of ancient times!

3VoK and VoQ aren't actual valleys but large gullies into the cliffs. Both valleys have many tombs but only a handful will be open at a time. When we were in Luxor in November, only nine tombs were open at the VoK, out of which three had additional entrance fee charges.
Given how important tourism is as a source of revenue in Egypt, it's unlikely that either valleys will be completely closed but the pattern of only having a limited number of tombs open will likely continue. Tut's tomb will always be open as it's the biggest draw.
