Carnaval in BarranquillaOk, so I've read some contrasting opinions on this so I thought I'd put it to those in the know...
Is carnaval in Barrq a can't miss? And if so, any recommendations on lodging (which I understanding should have been reserved last month). Is there a best day or since we are already there just stay for three days? Or is a total clusterfunk, a little too messy or shady, and is there a better party in another town, preferably along the northern coast or inland from there.
Background: We will be three dudes, mid thirties, good spanish, definitely in for a good party but it doesn't have to be a puking in the streets type of party. Between the three of us a room up to a $100US would be cool.

1I have never heard the Barranquilla carnival described as a clusterfunk by any means. Nor have I ever seen Colombians puking in the street, connot speak for other nationalities patronising the festival but Colombians I have only ever seen taking a dump in the street or slapping each other like girls and crying like babies.
Given the accomodation limitations you are presented with, and your concerns about Barranquilla partying too hard for you. You might want to try "carnival light" i.e. visiting before the carnival when you can see some rehearsals if you do your homework and figure out where and when.
