ADO night bus from Belize City to Cancun

Hi

It looks like ADO now run a night bus from Belize City to Cancun Airport but the ADO website doesn't appear to let me buy tickets. From what I can gather, the bus leaves Belize City (I assume from the main bus terminal) at 9:00pm and arrives at Cancun airport at 6:00am.

Has anybody caught this bus before? Will it be ok to turn up on the morning and buy tickets?

Thanks.

I haven't taken the bus, but media reports and a few reports from people who have taken it say it has not been full.

Yes, it leaves from the Novelo's terminal on West Collet Canal.

From the initial media reports here in Belize, the bus to Cancun departs Belize City at 8:15 pm. Tickets are purchased from an ADO agent at the main bus terminal (known as Novelo's) in Belize City.

The first few runs had about 15 passengers (seating capacity is about 44).

Summary of information from the media reports…
Belize City to Cancun:
Departs BC daily at 8:15 pm; stops at Orange Walk, Corozal, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cancun Airport.
Arrives at Cancun bus terminal at 7:00 am.
Fares: BZ$55.00 to Tulum; BZ$63.00 to Playa del Carmen; BZ$79.00 to Cancun.
Note: On the ADO website, the departure time was being shown as 8:00 pm -- I haven't checked what it is now.

Belize City to Merida:
Departs BC daily at 8:00 pm; stops at Orange Walk, Corozal, and the most important hospitals in Merida.
Arrives at Merida bus terminal at 6:15 am.
Fare: BZ$79.00 (one way).

The buses are first class, air conditioned with forty-four seats and a toilet.

In Belize City, buses arrive at and depart from the Belize City bus terminal (commonly known as Novelo’s) located on West Collet Canal.

Passengers can board the buses at Orange Walk and Corozal only if their final destination is in Mexico. Travel between points in within Belize is not permitted. These buses not stop in Chetumal in either direction. The bus runs shall not affect the services provided by Belizean transport providers.

More than twice as much, but a) it eliminates the necessity to change bus lines enroute, b) it's an overnight bus, which some people like, and c) it's A/C all the way, with bathroom and videos in a modern Mercedes bus, rather than a 30-year-old school bus on the Belize leg.

It saves you an overnight in intermediate points, as well. Worthy of consideration.

Currently, there are no flights, but keep checking with Maya Regional / Maya Island Air in case they resume the flights during the winter peak tourist season.

I am looking at booking a 1 week trip to Belize in January; looking at flying into Cancun and taking the night bus down to Belize to save on money. I wanted to confirm this ADO night service is operating, and will be in January; does it run daily? Does it run both ways?

Also I cannot find any information on this service on their website, should I be concerned about not being able to buy tickets in advance? I don't want to waste too much time on this short trip traveling?

It is currently operating -- one run each way daily. I can't say if it will be operating in January, but I haven't heard anything saying it won't be running.

The current schedule is the one I posted in Post #7 above.

The ADO site does not have the complete schedule on the site, and some info on the ADO site conflicts with the schedule I posted above which was issued in a press release and confirmed by recent passengers of the bus.

I have heard that the bus has been very popular, and one recent run from BC had passengers sitting in the aisle.
