1Not that simple.... A can of beer costs around 60 cents in a supermarket, you can pay 1.5-2€ in small off-the-beaten-path locals' bars or to 3-4€ or more in a fancy place or 5-6€ in a club or a tourist trap...
Then... please tell us what you mean by a "nice" meal. Main meal in Spain is lunch, and you can get quite nice "menu del dia" deals (3 courses plus drinks) for 10€ or less. Or you can pay 150€ or more for a dinner in a Michelin-starred restaurant (quite a few in town)
September is a perfect time of the year. Usually great weather, warm but not oppressively hot as August. And even better if you plan your trip around Sep 24 and enjoy the city at its beast during "La Mercè" festival :))

2I agree with Belsa's remarks about costs and weather. Only, if you want a cheaper beer, check with Lidl's or Plus, they sometimes sell it for around 20 cent a can. Now, isn't that a reason for visiting Barcelona ;-)

3Yeah prices of food and drink definitely can rise in relation to your proximity to a "touristy" place.
We were getting a couple of cold beers for average of 4.50 euros in some of the little places dotted around everywhere, but in a similar type place right next to Sagrada Familia the price doubled!!!
Never found it a problem though because there are sooo many options, the "pulpito's" (baby octopus) that are sold everywhere are absolutely delicious.
There's also a decent chain of sandwich/snack bars called "PANS" which do nice little meal deals of hot sandwich, fries and a drink for about 5 euros a go. A decent option if you're not feeling too adventurous.
I never found Barcelona to be very expensive in general, in fact I think it's a great place for a bargain getaway, enjoy !!!

4Thanks for your replies guys
I know it's a bit of a generalised question but you answered it perfectly for me anyway. It's a trip i'm looking at for our honeymoon so you know there will be a few posh meals as well as the normal day-to-day things of eating while we're exploring.
Doesn't sound too bad really. Less than expected.

6I ended up spending €50-60 a day on food and drinks in Barcelona, but I probably indulge a bit more than someone who's being budget conscious. Beers in a bar or restaurant are usually €4-5 and tapas plates are usually €3-6 each.

7You can get a nice meal in the evening with a drink for 15-30 per person€.
Avoid Las Ramblas at all costs- overpriced an bad food.
Great list of restaurants here, with average prices per head: http://www.feedmebarcelona.com
