Dubrovnik to Plitvice Lakes National Park

We are planning on spending a few nights in Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia. We will be coming from Dubrovnik (then moving on to Zagreb). We are traveling by bus.

Can take a morning bus from Dubrovnik to arrive in Plitvice Lakes National Park?
Is it best to plan to change bus in Split or Zadar?
Do the Dubrovnik - Zagreb buses stop in near Plitvice Lakes National Park?

According to this schedule (http://www.libertasdubrovnik.com/voznired.pdf) there is a direct bus from Dubrovnik to Plitvice everyday at 18:00. If that time doesn't work for you, there are also 5 or 6 buses per day to Zadar. Plitvice is not far from Zadar, so you can probably get a bus from Zadar to Plitvice pretty easily.

All buses travelling via old highway (Lika) from Dubrovnik to Zagreb stop at NP Plitvice entrance.

That is one long bus ride too.

Yeah, you're talking about ~11 hours on a bus with a transfer in Zadar. If you take the very first bus from Dubrovnik that you can get to Zadar, you could possibly transfer to Plitvice and arrive before night-fall (in the summer). However, that's going to be quite late to be arriving (probably 8pm at the earliest and likely later) if you want to find accommodation.

Best option would probably be to travel to Split or Zadar, stay the night and then head to Plitvice in the morning.

The 06.00 from Dubrovnik, with a transfer in Zadar, gets you to Plitvice around 16.30. A long trip but doable if needs be.

Well, there you go. If you can catch the 6am bus, you'll be in before dinnertime!

Why not just have a look at the timetable?
The buses leaving Split at 12.00 and 14.00 (Dubrovnik dp 7.00 resp. 8.00) seem to be good solutions.

Thank you for all the replies. I think that I understand the bus schedule better now. Too bad we are time-limite at this part of the trip.

Other than the 1800 bus from Dubrovnik there are no buses which stop (without switching) at Plitvička Jezera (Plitvice Lakes National Park) - I assume that the other buses take the new highway.

The http://www.autobusni-kolodvor.com/en/ timetable site is very helpful - I hadn't seen it before. Looks like if we want to do it in one day we would need to switch in Zadar:

06:00 Dubrovnik - Varaždin bus; AUTOBUSNI PROMET d.d. VARAŽDIN- u stečaju
arrive Zadar 13:40

then catch either

14:30 Vir - Zagreb ; CROATIA-BUS d.d. Zagreb
arrive Plitvička Jezera 16:45

15:05 Split - Varaždin; AUTOBUSNI PROMET d.d. VARAŽDIN- u stečaju
arrive Plitvička Jezera 17:50

If you don't want to waste a whole day with the Dubrovnik - Plitvička Jezera - Transfer, you may also leave Dubrovnik at 17.00 with the Trieste bound bus, sleep at Split or Sibenik and go on the following morning at 6.00 resp. 7.35, Plitvička Jezera ar 11.40.

If you want to do it in 1 day, you can either leave Dubrovnik at 6.00 and change at Zadar or leave Dubrovnik at 7.00 or 8.00 and change at Split, as I told you under #7.

Thank you once again. We will also consider an overnight in Šibenik or Split. The alternative or spending a night in Šibenik looks attractive.

13:00 Dubrovnik - Šibenik; ,AUTOTRANSPORT d.d. Šibenik
arrive: Šibenik 19:05

The next day

8:00 Split - Zagreb; AUTOPRIJEVOZ LIKA d.o.o.
Depart Šibenik 07:35 08:00
arrive: Plitvička Jezera 11:40
