Too Many Options

Saturday was the official kick-off for college football in the US. There were numerous games throughout the day. In fact, at one point I had as many as eight different channels all carrying games. Over the course of the day I think I could have watched some or all of about two dozen games. The problem is that when I'm so busy flipping through the channels and going from game to game I lose track of the progress of any specific game. There is no continuity. At least with the NFL I can usually only watch one game in each of three time slots so there is very little switching back and forth. Is it true that one can have too much of a good thing?

I thought football wasnt popular in the US, strange that theres so much demand for student footy as well. I wish we were televised when i played for my Uni, i once scored a hatrick against Thames Valley seconds.

Yes lake, I believe that to be true.

I'm Canadian, and I don't like ICE hockey. . . The only good hippy is a dead hippy!

Lake, stay focused. It's easy to go back and forth on games, but you don't have to. What's your team, your conference?

Or don't do that. There are 119 division-one teams, a 12-game schedule and no playoffs -- just a series of cul-de-sac bowl games, most meaningless. That means every regular season game -- unlike the NFL, or any other sports league in the world -- is like a playoff. No sports league is as exciting from the beginning, and keeps a rising intensity through the season. None.

I know this pretty painfully. I'm an Oklahoma fan, and because they lost their opener they are suddenly way out of contention for a championship. Sure, it's possible -- we haven't had an undefeated champion in college football since 2005 -- but it ALL depends on other teams LOSING at this point.

So I might keep an eye on other teams as well.

Think positive Robert. The Sooners play two relatively easy games then have a bye week meaning it's a month before they need Bradford back again.

I think part of the problem last weekend was that it was the first week back after almost eight months of no college ball.

Now I'm all hyped up over tomorrow night and the start of the NFL regular season. Go Vikings!

Thanks Lake T. If the season's goal is to win a national championship, OU's season is already about other games -- they have no chance to get into the game unless teams like Florida, Ohio State, USC, Alabama, even BYU, Notre Dame and Michigan LOSE at least once. Winning out is not enough to guarantee it, but to be honest, they didn't look like a team that can think about staying close to Texas or Oklahoma State or Miami. We'll see.

I like the Vikes with AD.

An early season loss can be overcome pretty easily. Especially a loss to a ranked team when your star QB went down with an injury.

If OU can go undefeated from here and win the Big 12 title (a big IF) they should be in running for the BCS championship game.

I never get tired of watching Oklahoma get lit up in BCS bowl games
